Meet Our Committee
Hear Here Australia is driven by people who believe
that hearing loss should never be a barrier to
connection, participation or belonging.
Meet the volunteers bringing their lived experiences,
professional knowledge and passion together to
create a more inclusive community.
Megan Marotti
Megan Marotti is a passionate advocate for the Deaf and hard of hearing community, bringing both personal and family lived experience to her role with Hear Here Australia.
Born with hearing loss, Megan understands firsthand the challenges and opportunities of navigating life with hearing loss. After receiving a cochlear implant in her 30s, her experiences further strengthened her belief in the importance of accessible communication, connection and self-advocacy.
As a mum to a son with hearing loss, Megan also brings the perspective of a parent navigating the hearing healthcare journey. Their shared experiences with hearing technology, speech pathology and early intervention have reinforced her passion for ensuring individuals and families have access to information, choices and meaningful support.
Professionally, Megan works in corporate partnerships within the not-for-profit sector, building relationships that create positive community impact.
Through her involvement with Hear Here, Megan is committed to raising awareness, empowering individuals and families, and advocating for greater accessibility and inclusion.
Laura Drexler
Laura Drexler is an independent audiologist, hearing healthcare advocate and co-founder of Hear Here Australia, with a passion for helping people with hearing loss stay connected, informed and included.
Named Audiologist of the Year at the 2026 Allied Health Awards, Laura believes that hearing aids and cochlear implants are only part of the solution to living well with hearing loss. Learning how to hear and communicate again, advocating for yourself and finding ways to manage everyday situations are just as important.
This is also why Laura is currently undertaking her Doctor of Audiology and additional training in aural rehabilitation, with a focus on helping people develop the skills and confidence to manage their hearing loss in everyday life.
Through her work as an audiologist, Laura noticed that many people wanted more than hearing assessments and devices. They wanted practical information, opportunities to ask questions and the chance to learn from others who had been through similar experiences.
Having previously served on the committee of CICADA Queensland, Laura had seen how valuable peer support and shared experiences could be. She often found herself passing on extra information and resources to patients and wondered why there wasn't something similar in South Australia where people could access that information and support more easily.
Laura had previously discussed the idea with two of her patients, whom she regularly saw helping others in online hearing loss forums. Recognising their shared interest in supporting the hearing loss community, she reached out and suggested they meet for coffee.
Over coffee, the three discussed what was missing in South Australia and came up with the idea for Hear Here Australia.
Together, they established Hear Here to create opportunities for people with hearing loss to meet, share experiences, learn from one another and access practical information.
Laura also developed The Ambient Menu, an initiative helping people with hearing loss and sound sensitivity find more conversation-friendly places to dine.
As Secretary, Laura brings her clinical knowledge and experience to Hear Here, with a particular interest in aural rehabilitation, community education and improving accessibility through initiatives such as ACE Your Hearing and Auracast.
