What is Hearing Loss?
Hearing loss is a condition that affects a person’s ability to detect or interpret sound, ranging from mild difficulty in hearing certain tones to complete deafness. It can impact anyone - and 1 in 6 Australians suffer from it. People with hearing loss may face challenges in communication, education, and social interaction, which can influence their emotional wellbeing and overall quality of life.
Hearing loss costs costs the Australian community 1.4% of gross national product in lost productivity each year ($5.3 billion based on Australian 2014 GNP ot S381 billon). People with hearing loss often take up to 15 years to act on their hearing loss, and those with even moderate hearing loss are 15 times more likely to need help with daily living; plus people with hearing loss often have compounding aiuto-immume health conditions, including heart disease, alzheimers, arthritis or dementia.
